NGC 2996 is a magnitude 9.41 unbarred spiral galaxy about 45 million light years away in Antlis about 08'38" x 06'54" in size according to Stellarium (Wikipedia differs!).

The best 72 frames (6 hours) from over 18 hours of 5 minute exposures in RGB since 2022. As I look back at other images of this galaxy over the last 20 years, the change is astonishing.
New processing tools means a very good 5 inch refractor under outer-urban skies is in some aspects matching, if not beating, a 16" high end reflector on a mountain top in Chile from 10-15 years ago. The latest Pixinsight updates to Weighted Batch Processing, Spectrophotometric Color Calibration, BluxTerminator, NoiseXTerminator and Generalized Hyperbolic Stretch et.al. are capable extracting amazing color and detail from quality data and bring new life to old images. The review process is helping me to save a lot of disk space as the old data is measured, found wanting, and deleted as of no possible future use. Thousands of hours of intrepid endeavor gone. Which is handy as the weather has been absolute garbage. Autumn in Sydney used to be a special time of year. Maybe winter can deliver to some clear dry magic.

More aperture would be nice so I too can spend endless clear nights screwing around with collimation while futilely chasing sky-limited resolution.
Maybe the future contains light weight 10 inch nano coated objectives.
That would be nice.

Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
